Instructions for today's blogging
1. Create a blog. Blogger, Wordpress, Livejournal are options. There are others. If you use blogger, you need a google (gmail) address, so create that first.
2. Once you’ve set up your blog, write five headlines and blurbs, linking to news stories. Use the following sites: nytimes.com, cnn.com, usatoday.com and Winthrop.edu (news and announcements). This means you will have five different headlines with five different blurbs.
3. See if you can post a photo to your blog. See if you can embed a video on your blog. Note: with photos and videos, you need a short explanation of what they are.

The one-syllable writing assignment
Words that have the most power often are the simplest words. This applies to nouns:
God.
Faith.
Wind.
Sun.
Sea.
Sky.
But also to verbs:
Howled.
Crept.
Gasped.
Screamed.
And adjectives:
Quick.
Blue.
Strong.
Strange.
One-syllable writing assignment:
I want you to write a short descriptive piece, two or three paragraphs, using one-syllable words ONLY. (OK, if you must words with more than one syllable, do so, but keep them simple and few!) Turn these in at the beginning of class Thursday.
Describe what you wish – something from memory, a happy event, a traumatic event, a current event, something on campus…. It doesn’t matter. But I want you to use the simplest description and structure possible. Try to evoke power, description and details through simple, direct language. Type them up and bring them in; we’ll show them in class next time.
